As the World is counting down on this year’s World Diabetes Day Life Transformation For Africa Initiative – Lift4Africa in partnership with Foundation for Positive Social Well Being Hammer Home The Glucose organized a health talk at Methodist Church, Ikenegbu Owerri. Educating the congregation on the importance of “know your risk, know your response”.
Today’s presentation was on the impact of diabetes on the eyes– Retinopathy (Retinopathy is the leading cause of preventable blindness. It is caused by damage to the blood vessels of the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye (retina). Symptoms of retinopathy: Blurred vision).
#Diab_Reach is an initiative of #Lift4Africa that focuses on creating diabetes awareness in Imo State, Nigeria and world at large. The goal of this initiative are;
1. Have access to diabetes care
2. To ensure that the 1-in-2 people, who are aware of their diabetic status gets diagnosed and know their health status; which is in line with the Global Goals for Sustainable Development #SDGs #goal3, #HealthForAll Universal Health Coverage and World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations.
This is to enable the delay and prevention of type 2 diabetes, to mitigate the life threatening complications of type 2 diabetes.
